The third-winningest harness racing horse of all time, in terms of races won, Southwind Amazon (Camluck-Artoonist), captured the featured $10,800 Open Pace this Saturday (May 20) in 1:54.1 for driver Art McIlmurray at Northville Downs.
The Paul Holzman trainee, Southwind Amazon, made his return to the Michigan oval a winning one as he sat off the pace set by Jet’s Sureshot (Kim Pluta) and Go Dancing A (Kody Massey) then made a sweeping three wide move down the backstretch to grab command and open up to win easily by four and three-quarters lengths over the field of five other rivals.
Commander Bob closed well for second with Jason Merriman in tow and Catch Me Conrad and Lindsay Moen got up for third.
Southwind Amazon pushed his career earnings to $1,443,917 and has amassed 127 career wins to date, just one win behind Rambling Willie who is the second winningest standardbred of all-time with 128 wins.
