Southwind Tyrion to stand at Winbak Farm of New York

Winbak Farm of New York is proud to welcome Southwind Tyrion, 2, 1:51.1; 1:49.2 -’24 ($1,127,865), to its 2025 harness racing stallion lineup.

“Tyrion stood out as a yearling because he had a great pedigree, great video and perfect conformation,” said Ake Svanstedt. “He is very good-gaited horse.”

Southwind Tyrion, a son of Muscle Hill, is the fastest 2-year-old colt trotter in harness racing history.

“When considering this stallion to stand at Winbak Farm of New York, I was impressed by his early speed,” said Joe Thomson, Winbak Farm Owner. “In today’s game, a fast and honest two-year-old is important in order to be competitive.”

At 2, Southwind Tyrion won 5 of 7 starts including the $60,000 Garden State Stakes, $85,600 International Stallion Stakes, New Jersey Sire Stakes leg and $160,000 Final, and William Wellwood Memorial elimination (second in $406,600 Final).  He set the World Record winning the International Stallion Stakes in 1:51.1 against a field that included In Range and Venerate.

At 5, Southwind Tyron won the $600,000 Breeders Crown Final (second in his elimination) against Its Academic, Rattle My Cage and Logan Park. He won the $350,000 Fanduel Championship against Tactical Approach and Its Academic. He was second in the $135,000 Allerage Farms Trot.

“My favorite races of Southwind Tyrion’s were when he set the World Record in the International Stallion Stakes at the Red Mile when he was 2 and his Open Breeders Crown Win at Hoosier last year,” said Svanstedt. “Tyrion has a nice temperament; he loves to work and race, and he is easy to handle.”

Now 6, Southwind Tyrion won the $131,250 Crawford Open and was second in the $282,000 John Cashman Memorial in 2024.

“I think and hope that Tyrion will pass on his early talent and speed to his offspring,” said Svanstedt. “I am looking forward to seeing his babies and I think he will leave his mark on them.”

In 2023, New York voted to no longer require “in state breeding” for resulting foals to be eligible to the states program. Mares can now be bred out of state and their resulting foals will be eligible for the program.
