MONTICELLO, N.Y.— McKenzie Sowers grabbed the lead and rebuffed all incoming rivals to deliver as the 6-5 favorite in the $7,500 North American Amateur Drivers Association (NAADA) Trot at Monticello Raceway on Wednesday (Oct. 9).
Leaving from post 5, Sowers sent Mufasa As (Lionhunter) forward and took over the lead from pylon starter Fair Glider (driven by Robert Ciavardini) after a :28.3 first quarter. As Sowers slowed the tempo to a :59.3 half, Raceace (Alan Schwartz) pulled first over from third but failed to overtake Mufasa As rounding the turn and moving for the backstretch.
Bully Boy (Anthony Verruso) vaulted from the second-over position to take aim on Mufasa As moving by three-quarters in 1:29.3 but only gave chase while travelling wide ground through the turn. Mufasa As spun for home on a three-length lead capped at 2-1/2 lengths at the end of a 1:59.4 mile with Bully Boy taking second.
Fair Glider finished third and Secret Bro (Marianna Monaco) saved ground to finish fourth.
