With an amazing closing burst of speed, Splash Brother (So Surreal) was able to go from last to first in capturing the $39,000 Open Handicap Pace harness racing feature at Yonkers Raceway Monday (June 20) evening.
The 8th race main event saw the outside flow fly out of the starting gate with Speed Man N (Jason Bartlett) taking the early lead and American Dealer N (Joe Bongiorno) grabbing the two-hole tuck.
Then add the race favorite, Bee Two Bee and driver George Brennan) starting up first-over and they went by the opening quarter mile in :26.3.
Bee Two Bee was able to clear to the front but the speed remained as they cross the half mile marker in :53.3 and that spread out the field in single file.
It wasnāt until the late backstretch that American Dealer came first-over at the three-quarters in 1:21.2 to press the pace while still in the back of the pack in seventh place was Splash Brother and driver Tyler Buter moving to the outside.
With most of the field coming after and wearing down Bee Two Bee, Speed Man N looked to be the winner of the race and then into the picture on the outside came Splash Brother and Buter and they passed by Speed Man N to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:50.4. Pyro (Dan Dube) was third.
SPLASH BROTHER REPLAY
It was the fourth win this season for Splash Brother. The five-year-old gelding is trained by Ray Schnittker, who co-owns Splash Brother with Nolamaura Racing, Arnold and Flannery. He paid 12.80 to win.
