Cream Ridge, NJ – September 23, 2021 – The Standardbred Retirement Foundation (SRF), in an effort to solve the problem harness racing trotters and pacers face when no longer able to race or breed, introduces its newest program, the Companion Horse Adoption Assistance Program (CHAPS).
Like our canine and feline friends, a horse is happiest when it has a companion / buddy. Horses are also herd animals. SRF is now offering some financial assistance to new adopters of a pasture-mate (aka: companion/buddy). These are SRF’s Standardbreds that may not hold up physically to riding, but offer so much to enrich an adopter’s life, while offering a friendly buddy opportunity to another horse.
SRF has more than 225 healthy trotters and pacers of all ages under its care and expense from the ages of 4 years to 25 years of age looking for a buddy home! These lovely horses may not able to withstand the physical requirements of riding or driving, but are healthy otherwise. They are located across the country – from Kentucky in the east, to Michigan in the north, Florida south and almost everywhere in between!
The program includes reimbursement for required vaccinations and dental care up to $250 annually, and additional reimbursement up to $350 annually for other approved veterinary care. For more information click here.
The Standardbred is known for its wonderful temperament, excellent manners, and so many are quite comical! Some are as small as a pony, others can be as tall as a Draft horse. Nearly every one with SRF can tell tales of visiting the Winner’s Circle in their racing days, or when they had a foal nursing by its side. SRF has more than 400 under its care and expense, all in need of homes. Most need a home for light use, or as a buddy or they would likely still be on the oval, this is why so many are in need.
SRF also has many of its horses in wonderful foster homes. For those who wish to foster, accountants can provide information on the tax advantages it can provide. For information click here https://www.adoptahorse.org/foster-information. Please share this to others, help a horse.
