East Rutherford, NJ – The Meadowlands will host the Standardbred Retirement Foundation (SRF) charity overnight harness racing series for 3-year-olds of both sexes and gaits throughout the month of April. The condition is Non-Winners of 2 Pari-Mutuel races or $35,000 as of January 1, 2023.
The inspiration for the SRF is two-fold. Horsepersons have asked why The Meadowlands does not have anything early that provides an opportunity for the green 3-year-olds to race against like competition over the mile track in New Jersey. This series of races is in response to those requests.
At the same time, Jeff Gural saw an opportunity to generate much needed revenue for the Standardbred Retirement Foundation, supporting their considerable efforts to repurpose retired racehorses.
The SRF support will be generated by a donation to the Foundation of $200 for each horse nominated for the races that will be matched by The Meadowlands, funds not sourced from the purse account. This money all goes to the SRF, none is used toward the purses for the series.
There will be three legs at $20,000 and a final for $40,000 with a possible $20,000 consolation for each division.
Please make checks payable to The Standardbred Retirement Foundation and send to The Meadowlands at the address on the nominating form.Ā Get complete info and theĀ form to enter here. The deadline for entry is February 15.
