Cream Ridge, NJ – 3/6/2023 – By 3 PM tomorrow, Tuesday, March 7, 2023 the Standardbred Retirement Foundation, (SRF) must provide the payment of the 43 former harness racing horses that are lucky enough to be withheld from slaughter.
The remaining balance for their release is now $17,495, but release is only part of their needs. Moving each from the pen to safety, immediate medical attention, quarantine, rehabilitation, board, homing or sanctuary comes with expense to SRF if no home is available. The additional $1,400 per horse SRF is asking for is the minimum risk SRF can manage. This remaining total is $19,215. There are 20 horses without homes.
SRF has received a $4,000 match offer from Mary Johnson of Loveland, Ohio who notes specifically that she has never made a penny from the hard effort a race horse gives. An additional offer from an anonymous donor who champions these efforts is a $15,000 match offer. Tax deductible gifts received will be matched dollar for dollar. If this goal is reached by 3 PM tomorrow it will provide safety for every one of these horses.
It takes many special people to make this happen, and so many have come forward to drive this effort. These horses need just a little bit more to walk onto the trailer going in the right direction tomorrow afternoon.
SRF is pleading to everyone for emergency aid before 3pm on Tuesday to secure their lives.
To offer a home or foster home emailĀ srfhorsesankids@gmail.comĀ an application is required and will be handled expeditiously. This can be found on the website.
Updates will be on the Standardbred Retirement Foundation SOSS/FaceBook as well.

Helping horses in these situations include the efforts of many people, collecting current information is challenging. If you have contributed it may take a bit of time to update the information.
While SRF also assists trotters and pacers off the track directly, it is the only Standardbred organization of its kind helping racehorses and broodmares facing slaughter.
