SRF needs help to save 32 horses

Harness racing horses and work-horses are being turned over in record numbers. The Standardbred Retirement Foundation, (SRF) is reaching out to everyone in a desperate plea for help to keep them from shipping to slaughter in Mexico and Canada.

These pens where they stand weighed and tagged to ship only need them alive, are not cared for, pens are not monitored for inhumane practices. There is no recourse for the lack of care and disregard for illnesses and injuries. Some of these trotters and pacers are aged, had raced then went on to the demands of working in the rural areas; many are emaciated; several are lame and in pain; three are in foal; and a few are healthy and ready for a chance to live out their lives in dignity. It is anticipated that a few others are in need and will be added to the list shortly as more information is being received. These pens need to be cleared out.

Trucks and trailers are on call, quarantine facilities are ready. SRF asks for tax-deductible donations to save them right now. The deadline for most is Monday evening 12/30/24, others have a deadline of Wednesday evening 1/1/2025. These horses are in several states.

Homes, fosters, and help from other organizations using practices similar to SRF are needed. Donations will release them from the pens, Those not offered homes need transportation to a quarantine facility, veterinary, farrier and dental costs, and several months of rehabilitation. Likely a few will need to remain with SRF for life as they will be unattractive to adopters. A few of these horses have some donations from SRFs effort on social media and these donations show in the list attached. In addition to SRF’s struggles with social media issues, the recent loss of one of its fundraising pages with nearly 40,000 followers impacts its efforts. (This is likely due to hacking or Meta.)

DONATE:

To send your tax-deductible donation to help them please use the button below, or this link. SRF accepts Venmo @SRF-SOSS, or contact Dana at 609-738-3255.

DEADLINE:

The deadline for most is Monday evening 12/30/24, others have a deadline of Wednesday evening 1/1/2025.

LOCATION:

These horses are in PA, OK, TN, KS.

SRF is feeding and caring for 483 trotters and pacers and cannot take on the additional financial responsibility of more horses without this support.
