Stakes record tied by Silver Label in Lady Liberty Open

Silver Label (Bettor’s Delight) upset the apple cart with a determined late stretch move to capture the $171,400 Lady Liberty FanDuel Mares Open in a harness racing stakes record equaling and career best time of 1:47.3.

Trained by Nick Gallucci for breeder-owner the Millar Farms of Stouffile, ON, Canada, the 4-year-old mare notched career victory 19 and seasonal win number seven with this latest triumph.

“I’ve been in that first-up position with her before and I know that she doesn’t mind it,” Zeron said regarding the mare’s first-up performance. “She’s right near the top of the class of this group for sure.  I knew with all the movement going on that I’d have to get going to be in contention.”

Silver Label bested ten rivals in the Lady Liberty, her 12^th outing of the 2023 season and was well in hand at the wire for driver Scott Zeron. The victory pushed the bay mare’s lifetime bankroll to $961,654. She paid $10.60 to win.

Mikala was second for driver George Brennan at 4-1, while 3-1 Grace Hill was third for Doug McNair.

SILVER LABEL REPLAY

Max Contract (20-1) took the field to the :26.3 first quarter, followed by 31-1 Boudoir Hanover and Grace Hill, who then took the lead at the :53.1 half, followed by the 7-5 favorite Test of Faith. Zeron them oved Silver Label to the outside at the 1:19.4 three-quarter marker, and just continued to draw off, winning by a romp.

Silver Label is the fifth foal out of the Real Desire mare Hidden Gem p, 4, 1:52.3s ($88,890) and is a full sister toScouts Report p, 4, 1:51s ($182,968); Franschoek p, 5, 1:51.2s ($179,383); and Savethelastdance p, 2, 1:51.4s ($138,725).
