Silver Label (Bettor’s Delight) upset the apple cart with a determined late stretch move to capture the $171,400 Lady Liberty FanDuel Mares Open in a harness racing stakes record equaling and career best time of 1:47.3.
Trained by Nick Gallucci for breeder-owner the Millar Farms of Stouffile, ON, Canada, the 4-year-old mare notched career victory 19 and seasonal win number seven with this latest triumph.
“I’ve been in that first-up position with her before and I know that she doesn’t mind it,” Zeron said regarding the mare’s first-up performance. “She’s right near the top of the class of this group for sure. I knew with all the movement going on that I’d have to get going to be in contention.”
Silver Label bested ten rivals in the Lady Liberty, her 12th outing of the 2023 season and was well in hand at the wire for driver Scott Zeron. The victory pushed the bay mare’s lifetime bankroll to $961,654. She paid $10.60 to win.
Mikala was second for driver George Brennan at 4-1, while 3-1 Grace Hill was third for Doug McNair.
SILVER LABEL REPLAY
Max Contract (20-1) took the field to the :26.3 first quarter, followed by 31-1 Boudoir Hanover and Grace Hill, who then took the lead at the :53.1 half, followed by the 7-5 favorite Test of Faith. Zeron them oved Silver Label to the outside at the 1:19.4 three-quarter marker, and just continued to draw off, winning by a romp.
