Lexington, KY — Stella Volo, a daughter of first-crop trotting sire Six Pack out of No I’m Not, topped Wednesday’s (Oct. 5) third harness racing session of the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale at the Fasig-Tipton Sales Pavilion, going for $250,000 to Alberta’s Fred Kruszelnicki.
The sale continued its record pace, with 235 yearlings selling for a total of $11.99 million and average of $51,038. Last year’s third session saw 222 horses sell for $10.16 million and average of $45,806. This year’s figures were an increase of 18 percent in gross and 11.4 in average compared to 2021.
After three days, the gross for this year’s sale was $55.49 million for 584 horses. Last year’s entire five-day sale, which set records for gross and average, totaled $56.68 million for 863 horses.
Last year, the sale averaged $84,793 through three sessions. This year’s sale has averaged $95,024, an increase of 12 percent.
Stella Volo is a half-sister to Grand Circuit winners Nixie Volo and Nomo Volo. She was bred by Kentuckiana Farms and Jorgen Jahre Jr. and consigned by Kentuckiana Farms. She is New Jersey and Kentucky eligible.
The second-best seller Wednesday was trotter Midwind Dolce, a daughter of Father Patrick-Boccone Dolce, purchased for $215,000 by Ohio’s Euro Stall Se. She is a half-sister to Bond, a Pennsylvania Sire Stakes champion this year, out of the family of Dan Patch Award-winners Bella Bellini and Pizza Dolce. She was bred by Diamond Creek Farm, raised by previous owner Midwind Farms, and consigned by Peninsula Farm. She is Pennsylvania eligible.
Third on the list was pacer Gifted One, a daughter of Captaintreacherous-Creative Power, sold for $180,000 to trainer Tony Alagna as agent. She is the first foal out of Creative Power from the family of millionaire Western Fame and 2022 She’s A Great Lady winner Sylvia Hanover. She was bred by Brittany Farms, Marvin Katz, and Lynn Katz. She is Pennsylvania and Kentucky eligible.
Three yearlings sold for $170,000, male trotter Secret Agent Man and male pacers Vincendi Blue Chip and Cincinattus.
Secret Agent Man, a son of Chapter Seven-Feel The Magic, was purchased by New Jersey’s Andy Miller Stable as agent. He is the first foal out of Feel The Magic. His second dam is millionaire Possess The Magic, the dam of Grand Circuit winner Master Of Law. Secret Agent Man was bred and consigned by Brittany Farms. He is New York and Kentucky eligible.
Vincendi Blue Chip, a son of Bettor’s Delight-Incredible Beauty, was purchased by Determination. He is a half-brother to Grand Circuit winner Soto. His second dam is Hall of Fame broodmare Precious Beauty, the dam of Dan Patch/O’Brien awards winners Sportswriter and Precocious Beauty as well as Grand Circuit winner Prescient Beauty. He was bred by Let It Ride Stables and Blue Chip Bloodstock and consigned by Blue Chip Farms. He is Ontario eligible.
Cincinattus, a son of Sweet Lou-Weapons Against, sold to Ontario’s Amanda Fine. He is a full brother to Grand Circuit winner Lyons Night Hawk out of the family of A Rocknroll Dance, who earned $2.42 million lifetime. He was bred and consigned by Vieux Carre Farms and is Pennsylvania eligible.
Through three sessions, trotting stallion Walner was the leader in gross sales with $6.89 million for 59 horses. Captaintreacherous led pacing stallions with $6.48 million for 42 horses. He led all sires in average at $154,429 while Greenshoe topped the trotters at $133,043 for 47 horses.
The Lexington Selected Yearling Sale continues with the fourth of five sessions beginning at 2 p.m. (EDT) Thursday. The final session begins at 7 p.m. (EDT) Friday.
