Sumomentsomwhere A (Somebeachsomewhere, Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) and Oberto (Yankee Glide, Billy Davis Jr) won their respective $18,000 Open Handicap harness racing races at Northfield Park on Sunday (Feb. 25).
Mull Of Kintyre (Billy Davis Jr) took the early lead in the Open Handicap pace, followed by The Real Way (Justin Irvine). Sumomentsomwhere A moved from the outside to steal the lead as they passed the opening quarter in :26.4.
As they came to the half mile in :56, Sumomentsomwhere A led the way. From the outside, The Real Way moved into second, leaving Mull Of Kintyre in third. They were still in this position as they approached the three-quarter mile in 1:23.3.
As they made their way down the stretch, Sumomentsomwhere A was on top by four lengths, crossing the wire first in 1:52.4. Master Yossi N (Chris Lems) finished in second and Mull Of Kintyre came in third.
SUMOMENTSOMWHERE A REPLAY
Sumomentsomwhere A is a 7-year-old gelding trained by Michael Burke for owners Burke Racing Stable LLC, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, Lawrence Karr, and Jamie Durnberger-Smith. He paid $4.20 to win.
Winning Ticket (Jason Thompson) took the early lead in the Open Handicap trot, followed by Winning Shadow (Chris Lems). Oberto was racing in third as they came to the first quarter mile in :27.4. They were still in this position at the half mile in :57.1. Oberto started to challenge Winning Shadow for second as they approached the three-quarter mile in 1:26.1.
As they turned for home, Oberto stole the lead and kept it until the wire, crossing in 1:57. Tequila Talkin (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) came in second and Winning Shadow got third.
OBERTO REPLAY
Oberto is an 8-year-old gelding owned by Paul OāNeil and trained by Jessica Roegner. He paid $4.80 to win.
