After getting some live cover on the outside in third place, Sammy The Bull N and driver Billy Dobson were able to come on in the stretch to win the $20,000 Charlie Hoffman Pace at Saratoga Raceway Sunday.
The fifth race feature got underway with the race favorite, Northern Rein and driver Leon Bailey going to the early lead, then making a break before the half mile marker, they were able to regroup and continue on the lead.
Steve’s Hot Rod and driver Jay Randall then came first-over against Northern Rein in the backstretch, giving Sammy The Bull N strong second-over cover.
Then in the stretch, Sammy The Bull N and Dobson were able to pass by Steve’s Hot Rod to score by a half-length in 1:55.1. Maximum Ideal (Shawn Gray) grabbing the show down.

For Sammy The Bull N it was his sixth victory on the year for trainer Gary Levine. The 12-year-old gelding by Bettor’s Delight is owned by Tem Loudis Racing Stable of NY and paid $16.80 to win.
