Gigfy and driver Alek Chartrand proved to be in peak form as they scored a mild harness racing upset in winning the $15,000 Open Handicapped Trot Sunday afternoon at Saratoga Raceway.
Gigfy was on the lead right off the starting gate and stung race favorite Big Box Hanover (Larry Stalbaum) through the opening quarter mile in :28.2. Once cleared to the lead, Big Box Hanover was able to back off to the half in :59.1.
In the backstretch, Quadratic Bluechip and driver Chris Long came first-over and pressed the race leader to the three-quarters in 1:29 with Gigfy sitting the pocket-trip but boxed in for the moment.
Quadratic Bluechip could not keep up the pressure as they started down the stretch and Chartrand took Gigfy right to the pass lane and in a torrid stretch drive, Gigfy was able to gun down the 1/5 favorite Big Box Hanover and win by a head in 1:58.1. Squee Hanover (Billy Dobson) closed well to be third.
