Monticello, NY— Sunshine Filly (Pet Rock, Bruce Aldrich Jr) won the $5,400 harness racing pace at Monticello Raceway on Monday afternoon (Feb. 26).
In the last race of the day, Dreamfair Helena (Joseph Chindano Jr) took the early lead, but was quickly overcome by Special Graduate (Adam Moeykens) from the outside. Proudamericangirl (Thomas Merton) was racing in third as they came to the first quarter mile in :27.3.
As they came by the stands for the first time, Special Graduate had the lead, with Dreamfair Helena following closely in second. From the outside, Speaking Of Coffee (Kyle Dibenedetto) rushed to steal the lead as they passed the half mile marker in :58.1.
At the three-quarter mile in 1:28, Special Graduate and Speaking Of Coffee were in a battle for first, while Dreamfair Helena and Sunshine Filly were neck and neck for third. From the far outside, Sunshine Filly made her way to the front as they turned for home. Sunshine Filly crossed the wire first in 1:58.2, just a head in front of Dreamfair Helena. Pretty Gorgeous (Mcgwire Sowers) finished in third.

Sunshine Filly is a 6-year-old mare owned by Bruce Aldrich Jr and owned and trained by Laura Aldrich. She paid $28.20 to win.
Michael Merton and Jim Taggart Jr had driving doubles. Gary Messenger had a training double.
