Surick and Marino were among 29 individuals indicted in March 2020 by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York in what was described as a “widespread, corrupt scheme by racehorse trainers, veterinarians, performance-enhancing drugs distributors and others to manufacture, distribute and receive adulterated and misbranded PEDs (performance enhancing drugs) and to secretly administer those PEDs to racehorses under scheme participants’ control.”
