Saturday night (Nov. 15) Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway crowned one of the Midwest’s best open pacers, the same night they honor one the area’s greats. Surreal Ideal (So Surreal) scored his eighth straight harness racing win in the $28,000 Open Handicap Pace and the veteran warrior, My Hero Ron, was honored in a winner’s circle retirement ceremony.

Surreal Ideal

There was a four-wide scramble for the early lead, but Surreal Ideal (Brett Miller), leaving from post #9 was pressed forward and parked three-wide in the opening quarter in :26.

A loose leader had no real pressure in the second quarter allowing for a :28.2 breather.

Helium N (Tony Hall) was the first to pull, providing live cover for Timeisonmyside (Anthony MacDonald).

As the field of ten approached the three-quarters in 1:22.1, Timeisonmyside went three-wide to apply pressure on Surreal Ideal into the lane.

The seven-year-old gelded son of So Surreal showed his toughness and scored the one length win in 1:49.4.

SURREAL IDEAL REPLAY

Timeisonmyside held off the closing pocket-sitter, Joelsyy Hanover (Tyler Smith) for second.

Vernon Beachy trains the winner for the 518 Group and Gitup Racing.

The win was one of five on the card for driver Brett Miller.

Following the race, My Hero Run was celebrated in a winner’s circle Carmony, where his shoes were pulled for the final time.

The 13-year-old son of Well Said made 367 career starts with 63 of them winnings ones.

He earned $1.4 million and took a mark of 1:49.1 at Eldorado Scioto Downs as an eight-year-old.

He has been owned by Brian Witt since March 2019.

Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway returns to action on Tuesday (Nov. 18).
