With a strong first-over move in the backstretch, Swan Flyer (Swan For All) was able to not only collar the race leader but pull away in the stretch to win the $31,000 Open Trot in a romp Tuesday (April 9) at Oak Grove Racing.
Starting from post two in the 5th race feature, driver Marvin Luna sent Swan Flyer out to the early lead with Yo Beth D (Verlin Yoder) in the pocket and The Hazelton (Devon Tharps) parked first-over in third place as they passed the opening quarter in :27.2.
Kings Country (Anthony MacDonald) was already on the move in fifth place and they came storming up and took the lead away Kings Country before the half mile in :56.1.
Lead changes continued over the track labeled good with Yo Beth D rushing up to take command from Kings County in the backstretch as Swan Flyer and Luna started up first-over from fourth place and was second on the outside at the three-quarters in 1:24.3.
Swan Flyer found another gear for Luna as they took over the lead by the top of the stretch and then pulled away from the field to win going away by five and one-quarter lengths in 1:53.3. Usosweet Blue Chip (Atlee Bender) closed to be second with race favorite The Hazelton third.
It was the third win in six starts this year for Swan Flyer. The five-year-old gelding is trained by Michael Burke for FAC Racing, Joseph Di Scala, Jr. and Yannick Gingras, paying $12.42 to win.
