HAMBURG, N.Y. — Kyle Cummings enjoyed a ‘trifecta’ of sorts in Buffalo Raceway’s harness racing featured

$13,000 Open I-II Handicapped Pace for the filly and mares on Wednesday night (March 23) as he owned, trained and drove Sweet Young Thing to the $19.00 victory in 1:57.2 over a sloppy track.

In a compact field of five, Sweet Young Thing used a first over trip to pull away from the other four ladies in the stretch. She topped Sapphire Love Chip (Shawn McDonough) by a length while Pretty Blue Angel (David McNeight III) took the show position.
Stay Beautiful looked like she wanted to ‘stay beautiful’ on the off track, setting the fractions of :29.1 and :58.4 through the opening half. But avoiding the spray for her soon ended as Sweet Young Thing moved up on the outside and took over the lead just before the final panel.
Down the stretch, Sweet Young Thing put enough daylight between her and the rest of the field, crossing the finish line a comfortable length in front.
Sweet Young Thing (Sportswriter-Snowbird) is a 6-year-old mare who collected her first victory in five attempts in 2022. The victory upped her season winnings to $16,370 and $187,146 in her career.
Driver Dan Yetman completed the evening with a triple. He swept the early daily double as he produced victories aboard Dontteasehim ($4.10) and Lillian Rose ($19.40) for a $43.80 return and then added another win with JK Kissntell ($16.40) in the eighth race.
McDonough had a pair of driving wins on the night.
Racing will resume on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. with an 11-race card slated. With no winner in the Pick 5 on Wednesday night, there will be a guaranteed pool of $6,000 on Saturday beginning in the second race.
