Swingforthefences put in another stellar harness racing performance, leading from start to finish in the $165,000 Carl Erskine Trot for three-year-old colts at Harrahās Hoosier Park on Friday.
It was the fifth straight win for the gelded son of Swan For All, who was driven by Peter Wrenn.
Swingforthefences outkicked Sevenshadesofgrey (Yannick Gingras) for early control and then went off-stride, allowing Platinum AS (Tim Tetrick) to grab the two-hole spot. Swingforthefences then cut fractions of :28, :56.4 and 1:25.2 with no one mounting any challenge until coming down the stretch.
That was when Platinum AS came after Swingforthefences, looked to be gaining on the race favorite until Wrenn asked his horse for more and it responded, winning by one and one-half lengths in 1:53.3. Platinum AS was second with Seven Nation Army (Lewayne Miller) grabbing third money.
It was the 10th win in 17 starts for Swingforthefences. He is trained by Melanie Wrenn and owned by David McDuffee and L&L Devisser, LLC. He paid $3.20 to win.
