Swingforthefences, a $551,000 harness racing stakes winner last year, made his 2022 debut look like a piece of cake with an easy triumph in the $22,000 Open Trot at Hoosier Park Saturday, March 26.
A 12-time winner in 2021 who captured the $270,000 Indiana Sire Stakes Championship, the $165,000 Erskine Memorial and the $156,300 Matron Stakes, Swingforthefences prepped for his debut with two strong qualifying wins.
Racing fans wagered Swingforthefences down to the 4/5 favorite in the 9th race feature.
Starting from post eight, driver Trace Tetrick sent Swingforthefences out for the early lead and he was on top by the opening quarter mile in :27.1 with Cassius Lane (Mike Oosting) grabbing the two-hole seat.
Rock Party (John DeLong) could not find a seat and ended up first-over in fourth place by the half mile in :57.1.
As they reached the final turn, Swingforthefences and Tetrick held the field at bay by through the three-quarters in 1:28 and then rolled to a two and three-quarter length triumph in 1:55.4. Cassius Lane was second with ER Kim (Bradley Ferguson) third.

A four-year-old gelded son of Swan For All, Swingforthefences s trained by Jeff Cullipher and co-owned by him with Pollack Racing, LLC. He paid $3.60 to win.
