Bangor, Maine …. On a day when the $380,000-plus Maine Sire Stakes Finals figured to command the bold type headline, harness racing driver Kevin Switzer, Jr rated above-the-fold column space on his own merit, as the noted state-of-Maine native won six races on Saturday’s (October 12) Bangor Raceway program.
Switzer’s most profitable score came in the $96,132 Maine Sire Stakes Final for sophomore pacing colts, as he morphed into the master of the outer-flow, picking the field off one by one through a persistent overland gambit to cap a brilliant undefeated season for Two Fold Cold (Deuce Seelster) (1:58.2-$3.60). The win was the 12th of the season for the Marc Tardif owned and trained state-bred who passed over the $140,000 level in seasonal earnings with the effort.
TWO FOLD COLD REPLAY
Switzer proved equally adept at parsing winning strategies with overnight campaigners too, coaxing wins from; Creepin (1:58.4-$10.80), who ground out a game overland score for owner/trainer Neal Grass while withstanding a stern finish line challenge from the 14-year-old warhorse, Rockaholic (Andy Harrington); Spicey P (2:00.1-$2.40), who held the field at arms length throughout a well-rated pike-route journey before sprinting clear to the wire while making his first state-of-Maine start a winning one for owner Christopher Hamilton; IB Notorious IR (1:59.4-$2.20), who paid dimes to dollars after powering off the gate from the 8-hole while also tasting victory in his first local appearance for new owner Ellie Grady; Threetimessix (1:58.4-$2.60), who claimed her fifth win of the season while continuing to race at a lifetime peak for owner/trainer James Smallwood; and Perfect Bloom, who held off determined foes at the wire to cap Switzer’s six-pack performance.
The ‘Switzer Sizzle’ will once again be showcased at Bangor Raceway on Sunday (October 13) when the lightning hot driver has been listed to drive in eleven of the thirteen races programmed. Sunday’s card goes to post bright and early with an 11:00 a.m. (EDT) starting time.
Bangor Raceway races on Saturday and Sunday mornings with an early 11:00 a.m. post time and on Wednesday afternoons starting at 3:00 p.m. This three-day-a-week schedule remains in place through October 30 with the fall meet concluding on Wednesday (November 6).
