Hall of Fame harness racing driver Wally Hennessey gave 3-1 Tattoo Artist (He’s Watching) a patient drive that enabled them to win the $250,000 13th annual Joe Gerrity, Jr. Memorial Invitational Pace Saturday (July 23) at Saratoga Raceway.
Working Ona Mystery and driver Tim Tetrick was the fastest of the leavers at the start of the race, flying to the opening quarter mile in :26.4 with This Is The Plan (Yannick Gingras) sitting in second place. They were then challenged first-over by Leonidas A (Austin Siegelman) to a :54.3 half mile with Nandolo N (Jason Barlett) second-over.
Then Brian Sears sent Linedrive Hanover three-wide going by Leonidas A at the three-quarters in 1:22.1. Gingras then came after Working Ona Mystery with This Is The Plan at the top of the stretch.
That move allowed Tattoo Artist and Hennessey to come up on the inside of Working Ona Mystery and go on to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:50.1. Working Ona Mystery was second with Linedrive Hanover third.
