Bangor Raceway names new Race Secretary

Longtime Bangor Raceway horseracing official Jean Thayer will assume the racing secretary position when the track kicks off its 2023 harness racing season on May 3.

Thayer has worked at Bangor for over 20 years in variety of racing office positions including assistant racing secretary, charter and program director. She has also worked as the assistant racing secretary at First Tracks Cumberland.

“Naming Jean to the position of race secretary was an easy decision to make,” said Bangor Live Racing Manager Michael Hopkins. “She has been the assistant for over 20 years to some of the most knowledgeable race secretaries in the harness racing industry including Fred Nichols and most recently Paul Verrette. Jean has a great rapport with the horsemen of Maine and we look forward to a successful 2023 racing season with her at the helm,” added Hopkins.
