CHESTER, PA – Some of North America’s best harness racing pacers, both of the three-year-old and older variety, will be going to the gate on Tuesday morning (May 16) in qualifiers at Harrah’s Pennsylvania.
Chaeleston (Downbytheseaside) and My Little Captain (Captaintreacherous), a pair of fillies finishing a nose apart in that order in a 1:55 qualifier here last Tuesday, will be squaring off again. Charleston, will be driven by Jack Pelling for trainer/father Brett for owners Diamond Creek Racing, starts from the rail after earning $338,605 at two; My Little Captain, who won $195,847 at two, will start from post four for driver David Miller, trainer Andrew Stafford, and the ownership of EVM Racing.
Captaintreacherous will also be represented by the standout six-year-old Allywag Hanover, starting from the outside post six for trainer Pelling and driver Todd McCarthy in a different qualifier. A divisional champion at four and a career winner of $1,671,380 for Allywag Stable, the pacer’s 2022 highlight was an upsetting of unanimous Horse of the Year choice Bulldog Hanover at Lexington in 1:46.
2021 Harness Horse of the Year Test Of Faith (Art Major) goes behind the gate for her five-year-old bow from post four in another qualifier. A winner of 33 of 44 races and $2,389,782 for owners Melvin Segal, Kentuckiana Racing Stable, and Eddie Gran, Test Of Faith is yet another product of the excellent barn of Brett Pelling, and David Miller will be in the mare’s sulky, where he was when she was also named divisional champion last year.
Qualifiers begin on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Harrah’s Philadelphia; Allywag Hanover is in the third, with the two three-year-olds in the fourth and Test Of Faith in the fifth.
