New Big M stakes race to support SRF

Cream Ridge, NJ – December 12, 2022 – The Meadowlands Racetrack is supporting the Standardbred Retirement Foundation, (SRF) through a new 3-year-old harness racing stakes race in 2023.

While providing starts over the mile track for green horses in the spring of the year, as requested by a number of horse persons, the Meadowlands is scheduling races for 3-year-olds, both fillies and colts. Eligibility is for non-winners of 2 Pari-Mutuel races or $35,000 lifetime as of January 1, 2023. They will be raced throughout the month of April.

The structure is:

1. A donation of $200 will be payable to SRF and sent to The Meadowlands. This will be for each horse that is intended to compete in these races. It is required to be submitted to The Meadowlands by February 15, 2023.
2. The Meadowlands will in turn match each and every donation sent to the Foundation for this eligibility. All of the revenue will go directly to SRF, none will go to the purse for these races or be retained by the track.
3. All inquiries and contact are through The Meadowlands Racetrack.

“I wanted to have races that can be counted on for young horses in April before the stakes season starts and at the same time show our commitment to helping find a home for retired horses and came up with this idea,” said Meadowlands President Jeff Gural. “Hopefully the horsemen will support our efforts to provide these races and at the same time help the Standardbred Retirement Foundation’s cause by racing their young horses.”
