The New Americana extended her streak of top three finishes to 11 straight with a front-end harness racing victory in the Monticello Raceway conditioned feature on Monday.
Bruce Aldrich Jr. marched the six-year-old mare to the top from post three going into the first turn, which was helped by the break of rail horse The Boss’ Wife (Shane Taggart). The New Americana paced fractions of :29, :58.3, and 1:27.4 without being headed, but Glamorgal (Brandon Parker) threatened in the passing lane and Moonlightandroses (Cory Stratton) provided pressure on the outside coming down the lane.
The New Americana turned them all away though and paced home a neck the best in 1:57. Michael Merton threaded Too Much Sun through traffic late, and they took place. Glamorgal was third of seven. The winner paid $3.50.
THE NEW AMERICANA REPLAY
The New Americana made an immediate impact for James Teri of West Babylon, who claimed the six-year-old Yankee Skyscraper mare on Apr. 26 and assigned her to trainer Christopher Petrelli. The horse has won 23 of her 112 lifetime starts and has earned more than $220,000. She will not start for Teri next week though, as Ralph Silvestri III claimed the mare who started under a $7,500 tag to be eligible for the contest.
Quick Summer took the sub-feature conditioned trot in line to Merton by pressing on to the front from the five-hole, leading through :28.1, :58.2, and 1:28.4 splits, and narrowly holding off Big Bad Swan (Michael Miller), who finished second, by a head to win in 1:59.2. Er Betty (Jim Taggart Jr.) also closed in the late stages and finished third in the eight-deep field.
QUICK SUMMER REPLAY
Quick Summer is now 14-for-90 lifetime with more than $90,000 in earnings. It’s her second win from as many starts for owner/trainer Andrew Adamczyk, who claimed her for $7,500 after her Apr. 19 outing. She’s a seven-year-old Prayer I Am mare.
A correct $2 win ticket returned $5.80.
Monticello Raceway will return on Tuesday, May 4 to host nine dashes beginning at 12:10 p.m. EDT.
