Cream Ridge, NJ – 2/8/2023 – The Standardbred Retirement Foundation, (SRF) and its volunteers share with its donors that in 2022 it brought eight hundred and forty harness racing trotters and pacers to safety, saved from the horrific trip to slaughter.
Thanks to the kindness, compassion and generosity of supporters that number surpassed 2022 by 12%. Rescuing a horse from the slaughter-line takes far more than just the dollar amount to free him from the shipping manifest. This is where donations are needed and applied to for each horse SRF saves:
Bail-payment to get off slaughter-line,Ā Ship to a safe facility;Ā Veterinarian; Farrier; Dentist; Quarantine for 30 Days; Ship out of quarantine to a boarding facility; Rehabilitation time; Retraining; Adoption-and follow-up for life.
If a horse is not sound, or is of senior age, he is less likely to find a home. He will always be available for adoption, for fostering, or in our CHAPS program. If he is not fortunate enough to have someone to love him individually, he will be lucky enough to remain under SRF’s care and expense. He too will need help with nearly every expense noted above to get to safety, and then for the remaining of his years.
A list of the horses will be on the website shortly. Anyone can save a horse from slaughter. The next steps are the key to their continued safety. This is how SRF is different. SRF has 512 trotters and pacers under its care and expense today. Ninety seven percent of its funds to save and support these noble horses comes from donors and fund raisers.
