Cream Ridge, NJ -11/26/2023 – Yesterday Sirdazzlingdiamond, an injured, emaciated and scarred 11-year-old gelding in an Oklahoma slaughter pen desperately needed help. The Standardbred Retirement Foundation, (SRF) quickly used its struggling social media to engage assistance for him. His pen release funds were raised as well as immediate care donations. What aided Sirrazzlingdiamond is that photos of his condition conveyed his need. His situation was desperate.
When he stepped off the trailer this morning at a farm SRF uses, a grossly enlarged ankle and knee were noted, something unknown beforehand. This is common among the horses SRF helps in these unfortunate situations, they arrive sick, with acute, and chronic injuries not obvious in these pens. Sirrazzlingdiamond’s donated care funds will not cover his immediate care.
Most horses SRF helps remain under its care and expense for many months of rehabilitation before homing may be possible, and homing is not always an option for these trotters and pacers.Ā SRF helped 833 Standardbreds in situations just like his in 2022. This Giving Tuesday is of paramount importance for these reasons and for this little pacer of barely 15 hands who was neglected and abused.Ā This generous match is aimed to assist in the critical needs of Standardbreds lucky enough to come to SRF who need unexpected and unfunded care.
All donations now through Thursday, November 30th, 2023, will be matched dollar to dollar up to $20,000 and dedicated to the horses lucky enough to get to the first step, safety.
