Freehold Raceway held three $70,000 harness racing finals of the New Jersey Sire Stakes Standardbred Development Fund Friday (Oct. 6) afternoon for two-year-old trotting fillies, two-year-old trotting colts and three-year-old pacing fillies.
The 5th race was the $70,000 final for 2-year-old trotting fillies and there was no stopping Eloise (Tactical Landing) and driver Corey Callahan as they lead from start to finish and just held on at the wire.
Leaving from the far outside in post 8, Eloise went right to the front with Fancy Nancy Lopez (Joe Bongiorno) sitting on their backs to the first quarter in :28.2. No one challenged Eloise to the half mile in :58. Then in the backstretch Blazing Deo (George Brennan) came after Eloise, pushing them to the three-quarters in 1:27.4.
They raced neck and neck around the final turn with Blazing Deo in the lead on the outside by just a head starting down the stretch. Eloise fought off not only Blazing Deo, but also the late closing Tactical Lori (Austin Siegelman), just holding her off to by a neck in 1:57.4. Blazing Deo was third by a half a length.
ELOISE REPLAY
It was the third straight win for Eloise, who is trained by Ron Coyne, Jr. for the Ron Coyne, Jr. Stable, Blair Corbell, Richard Carney and Farrell Carney, paying $9.00 to win. She was bred by Crawford Farms Racing.
The Lazarus N three-year-old pacing filly Two Pistol Annie was made the race favorite and she raced just like the bettorās wanted, wiring the field in her $70,000 NJSS finale.
Starting from post 4, race favorite Two Pistol Annie and driver George Brennan went to the lead as did Earthwindfire (Jack Pelling) and those two battled it out early to the quarter in :26.4, then the half mile in :54.4 and after that Earthwindfire had enough and started to fade.
From there Two Pistol Annie held the field at bay to the three-quarters in 1:23.3 with no one able to mount a challenge from the outside. Coming down the stretch, Two Pistol Annie and Brennan went on to win by two lengths in 1:52.4. The pocket-sitting Pembroke Southie (Austin Siegelman) was second with Devilish Dreams (Jim Marohn, Jr.) third.
TWO PISTOL ANNIE REPLAY
It was the fifth win of the season for Two Pistol Annie, who is trained by Izzy Estrada, owned by Brenda Selwyn Waxman and Tess Waxman. She paid $3.40 to win. She was bred by Anvil and Lace Farm.
Poof Of Record (Muscle Hill) was placed first in the 9th race $70,000 final for two-year-old trotting colts and gelding after race favorite Mr Grant (Jim Marohn, Jr.) broke stride before the finish and ran through the finish line.
Mr. Grant and Marohn had led the field from the first quarter in :29 with Seven Reps (Joe Bongiorno) settling into the pocket trip. Mr Grant then led to the half mile in :58.3.
Then in the backstretch Poof Of Record and Brennan came first-over and was gaining on Mr Grant at the three-quarters in 1:28.1. Those two raced head and head around the final turn and down the stretch with Mr Grant actually winning but on the run scoring by a neck in 1:57 but was placed second with Poof Of Record placed first. Seven Reps was third.
POOF OF RECORD REPLAY
It was the second win for Poof Of Record, who is trained by R. Nifty Norman for owner-breeders Mel Hartman and David Mc Duffee. He paid $13.00 to win.
