Tight finishes galore at Bangor

Bangor, Maine… Stampede stretch drives and tight photo-finishes were the order of the day at Bangor Raceway on Wednesday (May 25) as six of the afternoon’s eight dashes were decided within the margin of a length of less, continuing a season long trend of ultra competitive harness racing action at historic Bass Park.

The sixth race results epitomized the mid-week epic as Studio Session (Artzina) and driver Aaron Hall held off a cavalry charge at the wire to persevere by a mere head. In fact, when the dust had settled, all of the top three placements were made within the expanse of a head with the entire seven horse field finishing no more than four lengths apart.

Harkening back to a bygone era and certainly remarkable in this age of extreme raceway speed, Studio Session’s victory march was timed in a relatively genteel 2:02.2. Despite the throwback clocking, the race garnered the second highest handle of the afternoon, as kudos were once again bestowed upon race secretary Paul Verrette for crafting such a competitive and well received contest.

In other Bangor news, Aaron Hall claimed a back-to-back driving double on Wednesday, grinding out a first-over victory behind Humor Me (1:58) to post the mare’s first win of the season, while veteran teamster, Gary Mosher, also joined the hit parade with two wins of his own. Realistic (1:58.4) and Drinka Beer (1:57.2) both secured their inaugural wins of 2022 with the man in red and green holding the lines.

In the category of streaking steeds, Rocnrolwilneverdie (Rocknroll Hanover) jitterbugged to his third consecutive score on Wednesday, stopping the clock in a seasonal best 1:58.1 for driver/trainer Dan Deslandes.

Bangor Raceway proudly features live harness racing every Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. (EDT) with the popular Sunday matinees getting underway at 12:15 p.m. Simulcast wagering is available Wednesday through Sunday from noon until 7:00 p.m.
