Wilkes Barre, PA— The American Harness Drivers Club’s weekly trot at the Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono has moved to Saturday afternoon and raced for a $11,000 purse and when the race was declared official amateur harness racing driver Tony Beltrami bided his time and then rallied Wilberforce to an easy 2-1/2 triumph in a 1:57.2 clocking.
When the starter turned the field loose Marta Piotrow gunned Libero Hanover to the lead from th five-hole and they had command at the quarter and were followed closely followed closely by Beltrami and Wilberforce as the timer flashed :27.2.
Content with his position Beltrami followed Piotrow by the half in :57.2 and heading to the third stanza he moved Wilberforce off the pylons and ranged alongside Libero Hanover and were 1-2 as they trotted by the three quarters in 1:26.1.
The positions remained the same as they headed down the long stretch and as the trotters neared the finish line Libero Hanover tired and finished third as driver Matt Zuccrello hustled Muay Hanover up for second money. But Beltrami remained undaunted as Wilberforce cruised home an easy winner.
Owned by Dale Wareham and Kris Rickert Wilberforce, the odds-on favorite, paid a paltry $3.00 for win.
