Dover, DE – Tight Lines equals a track record and captures the Open Trot at Dover Downs Tuesday night.
JL Cruze blasted off the gait and appeared to intimidate the field as he was allowed to set fractions of 26.3, 55.2 and 1:23.1. Joey Bats, the even odds race favorite, settled in the pocket.
The field remained in single file until Tight Lines was hustled off the rail and raced 1st up for driver Corey Callahan nearing the three quarter pole.
Tight Lines pressured Jl Cruze to a 27.4 third quarter. Tight Lines cleared and took the lead at the top of the stretch.
Jack Vernon followed 2nd over. Race favorite Joey Bats remained trapped on the rail and was screaming for room in the stretch.
Sheez On A Cruz, the full sister to Jl Cruze made an early break. Jammin Jack, Home’N Dry and Muscle Diamond were all in futile chase and could not gain on the leader.
JL Cruze, the pacesetter, tired and finished 7th. His full sister Sheez On A Cruz was 8th.
At the finish, Tight Lines prevailed for his 2nd consecutive win by one and three quarter lengths. He was sent off at odds of 9/5. The 7-year-old Yankee Glide sired trotter equalled a track record of 1:51.2 for aged, altered trotters at Dover Downs. He was bred by P.E, P.F and J.F. Spears.
