JM’s Finaltreasure was the overwhelming harness racing wagering favorite in the $70,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Standardbred Development Fund Final Saturday (Sept. 17) at Freehold Raceway.
Even getting a perfect two-hole trip behind Shakertown (American Ideal) could not help JM’s FInaltreasure get to the winner’s circle.
The 5th race feature for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings saw Shakertown and driver Jason Bartlett go right to the lead from post six at odds of nearly 6-1. Following him was JM’s Finaltreasure as they passed the first quarter in :27.4.
With no one challenging from the back of the pack, Bartlett and Shakertown led the field to the half mile in :56.4 and the three-quarters in 1:24.2.
Saving a :27.3 last quarter mile, Shakertown was able to pull away from the field coming to the wire, winning by two and one-half lengths in 1:52. Bloodhound (Daniel Dube) was second with JM’s Finaltreasure fading and finishing third.
SHAKERTOWN REPLAY
For Shakertown, it was his fifth win of the season. He is trained by Tony Alagna for owners Crawford Farms Racing and Alan Johnston. He paid $13.60 to win.
In the 3rd race there was a $42,500 division of the Garden State Stake for three-year-old colt and gelding trotters and once again the overwhelming favorite was not the winner, but the winner did rewrite the track record for three-year-old trotting colts.
Saverio Hanover (Walner) and driver Daniel Dube went off at odds of 4-1 and held the field at bay the entire mile. Cutting fractions of :28.3, :57.3 and 1:25.4, leading by over five lengths, Saverio Hanover breezed home to win by five open lengths in 1:54.4. The previous track record was 1:55.2, set by Southwind Woody in 2017.
Thewinnertakeitall (Jordan Stratton) came from off the pace to be second with Finn Palema, the race favorite, was a distant third for driver Ake Svanstedt.
SAVERIO HANOVER REPLAY
For Saverio Hanover it was his fourth win this year for trainer Ron Coyne, Jr. He is owned by Ron Coyne, Jr. with Blair Corbeil. He paid $10.00 to win.
