Karinchak (Chapter Seven) picked the perfect time to score his first pari-mutuel harness racing win in six lifetime starts at Monticello Raceway Monday (Aug. 12) in the $102,500 New York Sire Stakes.
The 2nd race feature for two-year-old trotting colts saw driver Mark MacDonald leave from post one with Karinchak and go right out to the early lead with Variegated (Braxten Boyd) sitting right on their backs to the opening quarter mile in :31.
Karinchak then led the field to the half mile in 1:01 and the three quarters in 1:30 as Variegated had come out of the pocket and came after Karinchak. Those two raced neck and neck around the final turn.
Then coming down the stretch, Karinchak kicked in a :28.4 last quarter mile to win by two lengths in 1:59.2 with Variegated second and BJM’s Lil Man (Tyler Buter) third.
