With a game first-over move in the backstretch, Tipsy Moni (International Moni) and harness racing driver Yannick Gingras were able to collar the race leader and then pull away at the finish in scoring her eighth victory of the season.
The action all took place in the $35,000 Fillies & Mares Invitational Trot Thursday, May 30, at Yonkers Raceway.
The 2nd race feature saw Perfect Vixen (Jordan Stratton) leave from post three to take early command of the race with Airmans Jackpot (Joe Bongiorno) sitting the pocket-seat to the opening quarter in :27.3. They then raced single file to the half mile in :56.4.
Coming into the backstretch, Gingras moved from third place and came after Perfect Vixen. Those two were noses apart at the three-quarters in 1:25.1.
Those two fought around the final turn, but coming down the stretch, Tipsy Moni proved to be too tough, drawing off to win by two and three-quarter lengths in 1:53.4. Perfect Vixen was second with Airmans Jackpot third.
TIPSY MONI REPLAY
It was the second straight win and eighth triumph of the year for Tipsy Moni. The four-year-old mare is trained by Per Engblom for co-owners Ben Mondello, FAC Racing and Yannick Gingras. She paid $3.50 to win.
