Lexington, KY — All eyes will be on today’s (Sep 15) harness racing participants in the eight $400,000 Kentucky Sire Stakes Championship Series, but quality competition continues at The Red Mile until the close of the regularly scheduled meet on Tuesday (Sept. 17) with eight $50,000 divisions of the Kentucky Golden Rod Series. These contests are for 2-and 3-year-old male and female trotters and pacers.
Lou Hill, Disney seek scores in 3-year-old pacing finals
Lou Hill (Dexter Dunn) is out to snare his fifth consecutive victory on Tuesday afternoon. The son of Sweet Lou-Pretty Katherine is 8-5 on the morning line in the field of six for trainer Virgil Morgan Jr.
Owned by his breeder, Tom Hill, the gelding has compiled a record of 11-8-2 this season and has collected the last two legs of this series.
Pretty Katherine is a world champion and Lou Hill is her eighth foal. All of her progeny to start have been winners. Lou Hill is a half-sibling to Pretty Boy Hill (Somebeachsomewhere, $382,784), Heartbeat Hill (Somebeachsomewhere, $155,801) and Captain Hill (Captaintreacherous, $203,845).
Unraced as a 2-year-old Disney (Todd McCarthy) will leave from post position four in a field of 10 3-year-old fillies. The daughter of Always B Miki and multiple Dan Patch Award winner Pure Country is 4-1 on the morning line and will be vying for her fourth consecutive victory.
Disney is trained by Brett Pelling and owns a resume of 7-4-3-0. She is owned by Diamond Creek Racing and was bred by that organization’s breeding corporation.
Duke Of Walner, Justasiam AS lead the way in 3-year-old trotting contests
Duke Of Walner (Scott Zeron) will begin trotting from post position three is and is 7-2 on the morning line in the Golden Rod series final for sophomore male trotters. Sired by Walner and out of Nashville Lindy, the colt was second in the first leg of this series, triumphed in the second and third legs prior to finishing fourth in the fourth leg.
Trained by Lucas Wallin, Duke Of Walner is 18-3-3-6 in his career with $156,050 in purse money. He was third in the $400,000 Kentucky Sire Stakes Championship final last year and established his lifetime mark of 1:52.3 over the red clay on Aug. 25.
Justasiam AS (Tony Hall) is 9-2 on the morning line despite drawing the nine-hole in a field of 10 for the Golden Rod final for 3-year-old filly trotters. The daughter of Lion Hunter-Golden Door Lindy scored in her debut in the fourth leg of this series on Sept. 2 over rival Green Mercedes (Andy Miller, post position one, 6-1) in a lifetime best 1:53.2.
Justasiam AS is owned by her breeder ACL Stuteri AB and is trained by Anette Lorentzon.
Delray Beach, Flossy Hill pursue victory in the 2-year-old pacing events
Delray Beach (Yannick Gingras) will begin his mile seeking his third consecutive victory after capturing the last two legs of this series. The son of Tall Dark Stranger and O’Brien Award winner Idyllic Beach will leave from post position nine in the field of 10 and is 5-2 on the morning line.
The colt is trained by Nancy Takter and is owned by Black Horse Racing, John Fielding and Morrison Racing Stables.
Flossy Hill (Todd McCarthy) is trained by Chris Ryder, just like her mother, world champion and Dan Patch Award winner Party Girl Hill was. Her sire is another champion in Tall Dark Stranger. She competes as a homebred for Tom Hill.
Flossy Hill is 9-2 on the morning line and will start pacing from post position four in the field of 10. The filly won the first two legs of this series and finished fourth then second to Faze (Tim Tetrick) in the last two legs.
Faze is another regally bred youngster as she is by Sweet Lou and out of Darlinonthebeach. Faze is 2-1 on the morning line. She is trained by Takter and owned by Diamond Creek Racing, Farhi Standardbreds Corp. and Spreydon Racing. The filly drew post position eight.
Blue Cartier, Anativenewyorker set to shine in 2-year-old trotting finals
Blue Cartier (Gingras) is 3-1 on the morning line and leaves from position nine in the field of 10 freshman male trotters. The son of Chapter Seven-Corazon Blue Chip will be competing for a sweep of this series as the colt has captured all four legs and enters this race off a posting a career mark of 1:55.3 on Sept. 1.
Trained by Tony Alagna, Blue Cartier is a full brother to Dan Patch Award winner Fourth Dimension ($409,145), Valentina Blu ($556,691) and Honey’s Sweet ($191,404). He is a half sibling to Heart On Fire ($402,253).
Blue Cartier is owned by Crawford Farms Racing, who also bred him, Bradley Grant and Pryde Stables Inc.
Anativenewyorker (Dunn) is trotting for her second consecutive victory and the second in her career when she leaves from post position nine in the field of 10 2-year-old filly trotters.
Trained by Melander, the filly is 5-2 on the morning line and enters off a lifetime best of 1:54.2 set on Sept. 3.
Anativenewyorker also has pedigree for miles as she is by 2019 Trotter of the Year Greenshoe and is out of O’Brien and Dan Patch Award winner Ariana G.
The filly is 4-1-1-1 and is owned by Marvin Katz. She was bred by Katz and Al Libfeld.
Anativenewyorker is the third foal out of her dam and is also the third winner.
Tuesday’s card concludes the regular summer meet at The Red Mile. Racing, however, continues when the Grand Circuit rolls into Lexington on Sept. 26 for a two-week stand.
Racing will transition to a Thursday, Friday, Saturday schedule with a 1 p.m. post time.
