It took two big moves by Priceless Beach (Sunshine Beach) and harness racing driver Yannick Gingras to capture the $39,000 Open-Handicap Pace Tuesday (May 31) evening at Yonkers Raceway.
It was the race favorite, Leonidas A and driver Austin Siegelman, who started off the 8th race feature by leaving from the far outside in post eight and grabbing the early lead.
Moving on the outside was Priceless Beach and Gingras and they grabbed the lead after an opening quarter mile in :26.4 with Leonidas A come right back with the quarter move to take control again and lead the field to the half mile marker in :55.1.
Going into the backstretch, Splash Brother (Tyler Buter) came first-over and started inching forward against Leonidas A with Priceless Beach enjoying the two-hole trip past the three-quarters in 1:23.3.
By the top of the stretch, Splash Brother was on equal terms, noses apart from Leonidas A. But as they came down the stretch, Splash Brother began to tire and Gingras found room with Priceless Beach along the rail and used a late :28 last quarter to collar Leonidas A at the wire and win by a neck. Speed Man N (Joe Bongiorno) was third.
PRICELESS BEACH REPLAY
A six-year-old stallion, Priceless Beach notched his fifth win on the season for trainer Jared Bako and the 1362313 Ontario Stable of Ontario. He paid $7.70 to win.
