There are a number of positive tests and other suspension in this week’s USTA Fines and Suspension, but harness racing trainer Santiago Porfilio was the most notable as he has been issued a total of six rulings by the Pennsylvania State Horse Racing Commission thus far in 2022, the cumulative result of which is fines equaling $12,000 and a suspension that will last through March 16, 2024. The most egregious of his penalties stem from being caught dosing a horse on race day and continuing to race horses while under summary suspension.
Porfilio withdrew his appeals against all six rulings on Aug. 5. He will be required to pay all relevant fines by Aug. 15, 2022 and will wind up serving nearly two years’ worth of suspensions, through March 16, 2024.
