Given a perfect two-hole trip by harness racing driver Joe Bongiorno, 6-1 Typhoon Banner N (Bettor’s Delight) was able to out-kick Whats Stanley Got A in the stretch to capture the $39,000 Invitational Pace Monday (July 22) at Yonkers Raceway.
The 8th race co-feature saw Whats Stanley Got A and driver George Brennan shot to the early lead with Typhoon Banner N leaving from post five and getting the two-hole tuck.
They raced single file to the quarter in :27.1 and the half mile in :55.4 before race favorite Hemsworth N (Scott Zeron) came out first-over in the backstretch. The three-quarters was reached in 1:23.1 as Hemsworth N was unable to gain coming first-over.
Whats Stanley Got A led around the final turn and down the stretch as Borngiorno moved Typhoon Banner N to challenge and it took until near the finish before Typhoon Banner N got the lead and won by three-quarters of a length in 1:50.3. Whats Stanley Got A held for second with Man Dontforget Me (Matt Kakaley) third.
TYPHOON BANNER N REPLAY
It was the fourth straight win and sixth victory of the season for Typhoon Banner N. The eight-year-old gelding is trained by Joe Bongiorno for owners JB Racing, Philip Steinberg and the Barbara Bongiorno Stable. He paid $14.20 to win.
In the 7th race co-feature $39,000 Open Pace for 3-5-year-olds, it was another mild longshot, 12-1 Its A Me Mario (American Ideal) and driver Jason Bartlett moving first-over after the half mile and grinding out the victory. Race favorite Dunkin’ (Jim Marohn, Jr.) broke stride at the start.
Adam Twelve and driver Joe Bongiorno were first on the lead with Hazeville (Brent Holland) getting the two-hole trip to the first quarter in :27.3 and the half mile in :56.
Then it was Its A Me Mario and Bartlett coming first-over with Ammo (Matt Kakaley) second-over. Its A Me Mario was slowing gaining on Adam Twelve by the three-quarters in 1:23.4.
Around the final turn Its A Me Mario continued to gain on the pacesetter, collaring Adam Twelve in the stretch and then going on to win by one and one-half lengths in 1:51.2. Adam Twelve was second with Hazeville third.
ITS A ME MARIO REPLAY
For Its A Me Mario, a four-year-old gelding, it was his eighth win of the year for trainer Shane Tritton. He is owned by Joshua Graber and paid $26.00 to win.
