Cream Ridge, NJ – 2/14/2020 – On the last day before the truck leaves for the Canadian slaughterhouse, a little more than half of the trotters and pacers are safe, 16 are still in desperate need of homes.
The Standardbred Retirement Foundation, (SRF) has enough tax-deductible donations to have the USDA tag removed from each of the remaining without homes, that will confirm they will NOT be shipped for slaughter tonight. There is now $615 in donated funds left to help each horse. What that means is, should the next desperate thing need to be done, Veterinary euthanasia funds are raised. To avoid euthanasia this is what is needed:
Homes – to offer a home please contact SRF and go to the website to fill out an application. Sponsorship – $350 per month, any part of this, or $3885 a total for one year per horse. Foster homes – give one a temporary home while also helping to find a home. These horses truly know when someone is saving them and show it in so many ways. They are very well mannered and have wonderful temperaments.
SRF will continue to seek help over the holiday weekend. Next Wednesday, February 19, 2019, a review of home offers, sponsors, fosters, and additional financial support will be done. Should it remain that they are still in need, sadly SRF will not be able to take on this responsibility, monetarily or management-wise. Euthanasia by a licensed Veterinarian will then be the last resort. SRF has been hoping that harness racing organizations would step up to help, but none have.
