Trainer Dale Lawton scored a pair of upsets on the Monday card at Saratoga Casino Hotel. The Vernon Downs-based harness racing conditioner saw his Rocknroll Shelli (A Rocknroll Dance) surprise in the $10,000 feature on the matinee program.
The six year old mare was aggressively piloted to the lead by driver Leon Bailey who wanted the front-end at all costs with the 36-1 longshot. Rocknroll Shelli rebuffed several challenges before stepping away to win in 1:56.1. Paying $74 to win, Rocknroll Shelli prevailed for the third time this season for owners Chris and Dale Lawton.
