With live third-over cover in the backstretch, Triathlon As (Trixton) and harness racing driver Michael Oosting worked their way into contention and then came on in the stretch to capture the $22,000 Open Trot Saturday (April 22) at Harrah’s Hoosier Park.

The 5th race feature saw Famous Father (Rick Plano) go right to the early lead with I Know My Chip (Sam Widger) grabbing the two-hole spot as they raced to the opening quarter mile in :27.2.

With the exception of race favorite Dans Credit (Jordan Ross) moving first-over from 7th race, the field raced single file to the half mile in :55.4. It was then that Land Of Freedom (Trace Tetrick) came first-over in the backstretch with Dans Credit second-over and now Triathlon As third over to the three-quarters in 1:25.1.

Off the final turn and starting down the stretch, Famous Father still held the lead with Land Of Freedom and Dans Credit coming at him. But fastest of all was Triathlon As and Oosting, who closed strong at the wire to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:54.2. Dans Credit was second with Land Of Freedom third.

TRIATHLON AS REPLAY

It was the second straight win and third of the season for Triathlon As. The six-year-old mare is trained by Matt Rheinheimer for owners Faron Miller and the Every Day Stable. He paid 19.00 to win, handling the hike in class back to the Open ranks.
