ANDERSON, Ind.—September 8, 2021— It was a night ruled by upsets at Harrah’s Hoosier Park Racing & Casino as it played host to two divisions of Indiana Sires Stakes harness racing action for the two-year-old pacing fillies on the evening’s 14-race card on Thursday, September 9. The fillies have now completed round four of their six round series.

Lorraine Smoke, with driver James Yoder, scored her maiden breaking win in fashion as they pulled the biggest upset of the evening, to the tune of 85-1, in the first division. Uninvolved throughout much of the mile, Yoder, who also trains and co-owns the filly with Cheyenne Yoder, moved the filly to the outside late in the lane and she found a :26.1 closing quarter to scorch past her rivals. Stopping the timer in 1:53.2, Lorraine Smoke was able to stick a nose in front of the heavily favored JJ Endofanera and John DeLong steps before the wire. The daughter of JK Endofanera—Rebid recorded her first lifetime victory from nine starts. Lorraine Smoke paid $173.80 to win.

LORRAINE SMOKE REPLAY

The second division stayed with the upset trend as Ms Quick Sand and Brandon Bates converted a pocket trip into a 26-1 upset score. Stopping the timer in 1:53, Ms Quick Sand sat the pocket and then was able to track down the heavily favored and pace-setting Trick Of The Light and Michael Oosting. Goo Goo Won and Lewayne Miller rounded out the trifecta. Ms Quick Sand returned $54.20 at the betting windows,

MS QUICK SAND REPLAY

Trained by Ken Rucker, who co-owns the filly with the Panhellenic Stable Corp, Ms Quick Sand recorded her second win from seven lifetime starts. The 1:53 victory was also a new lifetime best for the daughter of Always A Virgin—Sand Pleasure. The victory was also one of four winners on the evening’s 14-race card for driver Brandon Bates.

The upset winners in the stakes action also resulted in the late pick-5 sequence going unsolved. A $3,269 carry-over will kick-start the early pick-5 sequence with a $15,000 Guaranteed pool in Races 1-5. Indiana Sires Stakes action will also continue at Harrah’s Hoosier Park Racing & Casino on Friday, September 10 with the two-year-old pacing colts highlighting the evening’s 14-race card.
