Uptown Hanover (Somebeachsomewhere) and harness racing driver Jason Bartlett had to take the overland route and despite a sloppy, rain-soaked track and parked first-over, still was able to post a neck victory in the $33,000 Filly & Mare Open Handicap Pace Friday (Nov. 11) at Yonkers Raceway.
The 7th race feature saw a two second allowance from the judges due to the inclement weather.
Lucky Artist A (Austin Siegelman) was first on the lead at the quarter in :27.3 with Andra Day (Matt Kakaley) was in the two-hole and on the outside was Classicist (Jordan Stratton.
Clasicist moved to the lead and took the field past the half mile marker in :56.4. Uptown Hanover started up first-over from fourth place giving second-over cover to Mcmarkle Sparkle (George Brennan).
Down the backstretch to the three-quarters in 1:25.2, Uptown Hanover was now neck and neck with Classicist and those two raced that way around the final turn and down the stretch with Uptown Hanover edging Classicist at the wire by a neck in 1:53.4. Morning Has Broken (Jim Marohn, Jr.) closed well to be third.
