Cream Ridge, NJ – 4/14/2024–The two Standardbreds with a very short deadline to ship for slaughter were brought to safety. While several were saved, the others wait with hope. the Standardbred Retirement Foundation, (SRF) is urging all to save them with tax-deductible donations of any amount, to offer a home, to reach out to organizations to help (SRF will screen organizations for safety and lifetime guardianship practices) and to share this urgent need with others.
There are still six without help who are scheduled to ship to the Mexican slaughterhouses on Tuesday 4/16/2024. They are weighed, tagged, and chipped meaning they are ready to load and leave the pens.
Three others at risk to ship were just brought to the attention of the SRF, the winner of $600,000, Sadie’s Place, Chance One, and a blind Standardbred Draft cross.
Raising funds and support on social media continues to be a struggle, as SRF’s access to the social media tools needed, particularly on Facebook, remains unresolved. This is why it requires immediate assistance.
These trotters and pacers are located in Pennsylvania, Texas, Oklahoma, New York and Virginia. SRF is prepared to secure their safety with quarantine and care facilities on standby however, it needs tax-deductible donations to get this done quickly. It also seeks homes and foster homes in these areas.
Paying to release them from shipping for slaughter is the first step but SRF needs help to take them under its care and expense. Many of these horses need more than just rehabilitation, a few will need lifetime sanctuary due to age and physical limitations.
To be released from the slaughter line each horse needs, what is referred to as bail, immediate transport to safety, medical assistance and ongoing rehabilitative care. Each horse needs $4,000 to be safe.

New York passed a law concerning shipping for slaughter. It is evident on social media that horses in NY are advertised to ship for slaughter. SRF is at a loss regarding how this remains in the public eye, advertised as such and continues. Please contact SRF for details so you may be in touch with legislators to get these laws enforced.
SRF urges its supporters to help save these horses from a horrific end. Gifts are tax-deductible. SRF staff is available at 609-738-3255, or at SRFFundraising@gmail.com.
