The last final for the 2-year-old harness racing series at Eldorado Scioto Downs was held on Thursday (Sept 2) with Velocity Chaps ($5.00) taking the lion’s share of the $19,300 purse by winning in 1:53.1.

Velocity Chaps, a son of Well Said out of the Art’s Chip mare Velocity Chiplet, shot straight to the lead for driver Josh Sutton from the three hole. They led through fractions of :27.2, :57.2 and 1:25.1 before winning by two lengths.

Velocity Chaps was bred and is owned by Velocity Standardbreds and trained by Mark Evers.

The colt now has two wins in five lifetime starts with $26,150 in earnings.

Scioto hosted a mini series for all four divisions of Ohio Sired 2-year-olds who were non-winners of 1 or $7,500 lifetime. Thursday’s colt pace final was the last division to complete the series. Other divisional winners were Miss Cowboy Star (2FT) in 1:57.2, Aviation (2CT) in 1:57.2 and She Means Business (2FP) in 1:54.2.

Racing continues at Eldorado Scioto Downs through Saturday, September 18. Upcoming stakes action includes the $17,500 Buckeye Stallion Series for 2CT on Friday (Sept 3) and 3CT on Saturday (Sept 4). Also on September 4 is the $85,000 Ohio Sires Stakes Veterans Championships.

The Jim Ewart Memorial for 4-year-old and up male pacers, going for $125,000, will be held on Saturday, September 11. Post time for each live racing night is 6:15 p.m. There will be a special Labor Day race card in lieu of the normal Tuesday card next week.
