Dayton, Ohio – Velocity Lady (Bettor’s Delight) stepped up to the harness racing challenge in the $23,000 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace on Friday (Nov. 4) at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway. Regardless of the steep competition, Velocity Lady came out on top in a new lifetime effort of 1:49.4.
Leaving from post two, the 5-year-old mare fired off the gate. Velocity Lady quickly settled into the pocket behind 8-5 favorite Marloe Hanover. Passed the :26.1 opening quarter, driver Jeremy Smith wasted no time in gaining control of the field. Velocity Lady set the remaining fractions in :55 and 1:22 before stopping the clock in a blazing 1:49.4.
Marloe Hanover (Brett Miller) was second by a nose while Single Girl (Trevor Smith) finished third.
Velocity Lady didn’t begin her racing career until the age of four and the delayed start is proving to be fruitful. The Brady Galliers trainee has now won seven of her 24 seasonal starts and boasts $162,416 in lifetime earnings. Velocity Lady is owned in partnership by Galliers Racing and Look Ahead Racing.
