Feature trot goes to Spoiler Alert

Spoiler Alert (Justin Huckabone) grabbed the harness racing featured $6,000 trot at Vernon Downs on Friday (July 16).

The big favorite, Saylor (Claude Huckabone III) went off stride right at the start. Spoiler Alert ($18,00) went straight to the front and led to the first quarter in :28.2.

He used a :29.3 second quarter to hit the half in :58.0. He easily held the lead to three-quarters in 1:26.4.

As they reached the stretch Frisky Joe (Leon Bailey) went all out on the chase but had to settle for second as Spoiler Alert won in 1:55.1. Southwind Falcon (Ron Harp) finished third.

Spoiler Alert is a 7-year-old gelding by Chapter Seven. He is owned by Jeffrey Hayes and trained by Misty Carey. It was his second win this season. He now owns 18 career victories.

Justin Huckabone drove three winners on the night. His other wins came with Yankee Strong ($2.20), and War Drums ($4.60).

Leon Bailey leads all drivers with 56 wins. Justin Huckabone is second on the list with 29 victories. Chris Long, Jimmy Whittemore and John MacDonald are tied for third with 20 trips to the winner’s circle each. Jeff Sorenson leads all trainers with 16 wins. Jessica Okusko is second with 14 victories. Justin Huckabone is in third with 13 wins. Bruce Lauer is fourth with 12 victories. Claude Huckabone III, George Ducharme, and Gary Gibson are tied for fifth best with nine training wins.
