Vernon Downs welcomes New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) harness racing divisions for 2-year-old trotting colts and geldings on Friday (Aug. 18).
The 5-2 morning line favorite Wild Ticket (Brian Sears, Chapter Seven-On The Wild Side) should be the one to beat in the $108,200 leg of the NYSS. Marcus Melander trains the colt. He has two wins and a third in three starts. The colt has NYSS wins at Tioga Downs and Saratoga.
Ake Svanstedt trains the 3-1 second choice Situationship (Jason Bartlett, Chapter Seven-Meegan Hall). The colt has a win and a second in three starts. His win was in a leg of the NYSS at Saratoga.
Bargain (Jimmy Whittemore, Chapter Seven-Batoutahill) has 2 NYSS wins and has won a leg of the Kindergarten Stakes. He should be a major contender as well. Nancy Takter trains the colt. In five career starts he has three wins with two seconds and has earned over $130,000.
