Warrior One was able to overcome starting from the far outside in post eight in capturing the $39,000 Open Handicap Trot at Yonkers Raceway Friday.
The eighth race feature got underway with Hayek (Jason Bartlett) grabbing the early lead and then pressed on the outside by Stormy Kromer (Dan Dube) by the first quarter in :28. Street Gossip (Jordan Stratton) enjoyed the pocket-trip.
Refusing to give way on the lead, Hayek remained on the front with Stormy Kromer parked out for his life to the half in :57.1 and then he began to fade.
Warrior One came first-over in the backstretch from fifth place and kept marching forward on the outside with Hayek on the lead at the three-quarters in 1:26.3.
By the top of the stretch, Warrior One was in third place still parked out and with a :29 last quarter, was able to collar both Hayek and Street Gossip to win by a half-length in 1:56.3. Street Gossip was second and Hayek was third.
WARRIOR ONE REPLAY
